It has been a fantastic year on many levels in the school beginning with a Whole School Evaluation in September and ending with a wonderful Graduation ceremony for the 6th class pupils. Throughout the year we participated in so many sporting events achieving great success. The Active team initiated a Daily mile/run for the whole school which certainly has enhanced the fitness levels of the pupil community. In doing so also has highlighted an awareness of the importance of a Healthy body, a healthy mind.
We celebrated a beautiful Carol service in the local Church in December with the wider community. In our school we have a big emphasis on the Pastoral dimension of the education of our pupils. All classes participated in a lovely spiritual choral event with proceeds going to the local St Vincent de Paul Conference and to East Meath Hospice Charity.
During the year we participated in a Spelling Bee competition and this created an enthusiasm for further spelling competitions within our school. A huge emphasis on the Literacy programme with professional development from the PDST (Professional Development School Services).
The Parents Association were hugely instrumental in fundraising for all the additional Literacy reading schemes and ICT purchased this school year.
Easter celebrations in our school included a very successful Easter Camp, a fantastic production by a 4th class called Resurrection Rock, pupils participating in the Stations of the Cross Liturgy in the local Church, and a number of our pupils altar serving throughout the Easter Ceremonies.
Term 3 saw the Active Team roll out a very successful Active Week with a huge involvement from the local GAA club St Colmcilles, and many other dance, athletic, boxing and other clubs in the parish. We had a fantastic Sports Day on the beach and an award ceremony to celebrate all those winning finalists. A Sponsored Walk on the beach with a high level of participation of the Parent Community cheering us on. Our school is ideally located to provide such an Inclusive and holistic education with all of these facilities so close by.School tours, fun days, nature trails and lots of visits to the beach provided for a blended education in the final few weeks at school.
We had a fantastic engaging Erasmus Student mobility from Berlin in June. There was great excitement when the students arrived to our school and we are so appreciative of all the local families who volunteered to host the children.
The Green Team had a wonderful visit to the Boyne Valley Hotel to meet His Royal Serene Highest Prince Albert of Monaco who was on a royal tour to Ireland. He has a keen interest in the Association of Beekeepers and the pupils very proudly presented to him a super project on Biodiversity. We also met with the Vice President of the European Union Máiréad McGuinness and the Lord Major of Drogheda. What a memorable day!!
The Graduation Mass for our 6th pupils was indeed a very special occasion with the Parents joining us for a beautiful Mass in the morning celebrated by Fr Denis McNelis PP. The PA very kindly hosted a lovely cuppa in the gym afterwards where the pupils also performed for the school community. Both the Principal and the 6th Team addressed the audience and wished the pupils every good blessing in their transition to Post Primary Schools.
Our final assembly saw awards for Kindness, Improved Attendance and to the pupils who reached the Golden Book for exemplary behaviour, great effort and good behaviour. The theme of gratitude was highlighted by the Principal in recognition of a very successful school year with words of appreciation to all the Staff, the Ancillary Staff, the Parent Community, the Pupils and to the wider School Community.
A final word of thanks was given to the Board of Management for their ongoing support, guidance and affirmation of all the endeavours and initiatives by the school.
