The Daily Mile
The Daily Mile is a popular, simple and cost effective initiative that encourages children worldwide to run or jog at their own pace for fifteen minutes every day around the school grounds. The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and well-being of each child participating. We completed The Daily Mile as class groups at various times throughout the day. Student’s times were recorded daily and then analysed to observe any improvements that may have occurred. The majority of the student’s personal bests improved week after week having participated in The Daily Mile each day.
Three at Three Initiative
The Three at Three initiative was devised to encourage students to get up and be active throughout the school day. The main aim of this initiative consisted of students being physically active in the classroom three times a day, using little space and time. Three by Three consisted of three different exercises to be completed three times throughout the day. Each exercise prescribed required no equipment, as only body weight was required to complete the various exercises. Exercises that aimed to improve the student’s aerobic fitness, muscular and bone development as well as functional movements were prescribed to each class group. Students were eager to participate in the Three by Three initiative on a daily basis in order to reap the benefits of daily physical activity.
